The life work of Malcolm X, Jesse Owens and
Bessie Coleman, both harrowing and filled with triumph, had a profound
impact on the ever changing landscape of civil rights in the United
States. Honoring their significance and the significance of those
who followed in their footsteps is a process that should hardly
be limited to a single tributary Web site or a mere 28 days out
of the year. Instead, honoring these great men and women who selflessly
dedicated their lives towards improving all of humanity is a process
that should take place all year long.
This, of course, is where you come in.
CMG Worldwide is inviting children and adults of all ages to rack their brains
and participate in the Black History Month essay contest. The essay
contest is part of CMG Worldwide's month-long tribute to commemorate
African American heritage. The theme of this year's essay contest
is:
"One
dream, one nation."
In 500 words or less, participants are invited to write about any
African American leader of the past (both famous and not famous)
and focus on what their message was and why they were important
to the country. The essay can be personal or it can speak in terms
of generalities. There are no age requirements and the contest
is open to all people.
A panel of judges will select the winning essay which will be featured
prominently on the front page of the CMG Worldwide Black History
Web site for one year.
Guidelines for the essay contest are:
. Entries must be submitted by Wednesday, February
27, 2008.
. Each person may enter up to one essay at 500 words (or shorter) in length.
. Essays should be single-spaced.
. The winning essay will be announced on Monday, March 3rd, 2008 and placed
prominently on the CMG Worldwide Black History Web site for one (1) full year.
